The brand new video from Angus & Julia Stone called “Black Crow”.
I could use a little help with some aspects of the site. I am particularly looking for someone to write live reviews, and contribute to the Pop music section. Pop music is the realm of the young, and as an aging fart I find it difficult to grasp.
Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
Nicki Gillis sings a traditional style of country music, with a modern twist. All the traditional country sounds are there, along with a dash of soul and maybe even a touch of jazz.
She has a wonderful voice that can sound both vulnerable and soulful. Nicki has been enjoying fantastic success offshore, namely in the UK, with her latest song “Be A Star” debuted at #2 before reaching #1 on the Hotdisk country music chart.

This is an amazing achievement and Nicki is to be applauded for being such a wonderful ambassador for Australian music.
You can listen to some of her terrific songs right here right now.
Remember The Poor? They had a huge hit with the anthemic “More Wine Waiter Please”. They were the “Airborne” of their day, which was around 20 years ago. They were going to be huge, the next big thing in Australian rock. For whatever reason, they weren’t. In fact they vanished for around 10 years and only returned at the invitation of W.A.S.P, who asked them to be their support band for their Australian tour. The Poor agreed, found their Mojo and they are back with a new album “Round 1″.
I guess they saw a great rock revival happening around them with bands like Airborne, Jet, and Wolfmother finding huge success and decided the time was right for a full fledged second attempt. Power to ‘em.
This video is the second single taken from the album called “House”. (Facebook readers will have to click here to watch the video)

Head Of State have posted a video for their song Realize on Facebook.
Head Of State are a Newcastle band who have been plying their trade since 2003. They have a 23 song double album out called *”Spirit Of The Staircase”, recorded live in the studio over 2 days from which this song comes.
The members are
TY BRENNOCK – Bass Guitar
LEVI DALLEN – Drums
MURRAY DICKINSON – Vocals, Guitar
TIM MARRIOTT – Guitar
They play an intelligent style rock music, melodic yet edgy, with some great vocals.
*”The Spirit Of The Staircase” is the English translation of the French phrase “l’esprit de l’escalier” which means the things you think of to say after it’s already too late and you’re on your way out.

As a young’un I will admit to frequenting the odd night club. Naturally, thats where the chicks were.
Being a bit of a drinker, I never actually drove myself to these evenings, that was usually left up to my hapless father. I would guesstimate that I was turned away from said nightclub for one reason or another 8 out of 10 times, with “incorrect footware” usually being the excuse. So often did this happen (as a kid I cared little for fashion and only owned 2 pairs of footware), that dear old Dad would wait in the car until I was actually allowed in. If/when I was not allowed in, we would swap shoes. There was no point in going home for my other pair, they were not acceptable either. So there I would be with my KMart jeans and shirt (had to have a collar in those days mind you) wearing Dads 2 sizes too small shoes trying to look cool. No wonder I was such a winner with the chicks.
Anyway, it all came back to me after listening to The Chemist sing “Heavens got a dress code now”, a song apparently about just such experiences as my own.
The Chemist is a Perth based band featuring the talents of Bob Evans Band guitarist Ben Witt on Vocals and guitar, along with Elliot Smith on Drums, James Ireland on keyboards and Hamish Rahn on the bass.

You can download a three of their songs for free at the Triple J Unearthed site here
I have copied and pasted the lyric for the song under the video. (as always, facebook readers will have to click on “view original post” to enjoy the song).
I’ve got the feather from a peacock, it shines a sapphire blue
I’ve got a bag of fireworks & tonight they’re getting used
The dress I hope she’s in is a shade of licorice black
But if she sees through my charms her sister’s gonna take me back
Randy K is high on cocaine with shoes whiter than an angel’s dress
He stands in line waiting for his time to see if Peter is gonna be impressedYou see they’ve got restrictions
A class they allow
You must be lookin’ for the basement
cos heaven’s got a dress code nowBuzz cut Joe was last seen dancing drunk with a wooden axe
The lord forgave him for all his sins but never for his stetson hat
So one kind favor I’ll ask from you, just before I go
Could you make sure that my grave’s kept clean and bury me in my finest clothesYou see they’ve got restrictions – A class they allow
Try the basement you’ll love it down there – cos heaven’s got a dress code now

In another first for the Only Australian Music site, we have our very first audio interview. Not only that, but it’s with Dave Walker, of country rock band The Blue Moon Lodge and hard rock group Destroy She Said.
Dave grew up in country New South Wales, spending his formative years on a farm between Mulwala and Corowa.
He’d played guitar from the age of 6, but effectively started out his musical career in the USA where he lived for a year in 1989. Upon returning to Australia in 1990 he maintained his involvement with music and played in a variety of cover and original bands in North East Victoria.
He moved to Melbourne in 1996 to pursue a professional career in music.
He joined The Hooligans in 1997 and began to expand his repertoire of instruments, learning mandolin and banjo as well as beginning to sing more on stage as well as embarking on a demanding domestic and international touring schedule.
Dave formed Country outfit, The Cowtippers in 1999 and at the same time was playing bass in an instrumental groove band, The Brunswick Music Group, who are still signed to Universal Music Publishing.
‘Diamonds on the Road’ is Dave’s seventh studio album and the second of his original music. Proficient on electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin and tenor banjo as well as possessing a powerful, passionate voice, Dave Walker is a charismatic and engaging frontman.
Grab a coffee, sit back, relax and let Dave tell you the story in his own words.
